The floor slab was poured this morning. The photo was taken at eight pm in the evening and you can already clearly make out where the insulation is below. These areas are drying more rapidly. The deeper areas of concrete that still appear wet are what gives the slab it's required strength, they will need to cure before taking a substantial load.
When the concrete is set saw cuts will be make to help control future shrinkage. The slab is then going to be ground off, honed and sealed. The floor will be protected during the building works. At completion the floor finish is the honed concrete surface.
Fingers crossed the local kids don't get busy leaving their mark tonight!

On Friday last week the insulation was laid in place for the floor slab. The timber boxing was previously in place, it forms the slab edge and rebates for windows and doors. The edge of the slab will be insulated later.
The grey water tank is buried in the foreground of the photo, and the green box on the right, by the slab edge, is the diverter unit.

Zero Energy Underway
Our zero energy project is finally on site and underway!
Our clients, Shay and Jo, have sent up an excellent web site to share their experience of building a home with a net energy consumption of zero over the course of the year. Check it out here www.zeroenergyhouse.co.nz
